Titans ‘worst draft pick’ take ignores franchise history

With the Tennessee Titans in OTAs, fans have been getting excited by videos produced by the Titans' social media team that highlight the team's potential. However, other outlets are dwelling on past mistakes from all NFL teams, which is a result of the NFL's post-draft schedule.

Minicamp will follow OTAs for most teams next month, followed by training camp in late July. While football and Titans fans await the long summer months, debates will spark over random surveys and polls. Kalshi Sports sparked a major one with their take on the Titans' worst draft pick in the history of their franchise.

Jake Locker was listed as the Titans' worst draft pick

The Tennessee Titans have appeared to be in quarterback purgatory since Steve McNair was traded to the Baltimore Ravens in 2006. Since then, they have drafted four quarterbacks in the top 10 of the NFL Draft, with Cam Ward as the latest. First, Vince Young was tasked with being the savior after being selected third overall in the 2006 NFL Draft.

After Young's tenure went downhill, Jake Locker was selected with the eighth overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. While Locker ultimately flamed out, leading to Marcus Mariota's selection with the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, listing him as the franchise's worst draft pick is a stretch.

Is Locker one of their worst picks ever? Sure! He had an injury-riddled tenure and only played 30 games. But the Titans had three consecutive first-round picks from 2020 to 2022, who played a combined 40 games with the team. OT Isaiah Wilson (2020), CB Caleb Farley (2021), and WR Treylon Burks (2022) should all be ranked ahead of Locker as the franchise's worst draft selection.

Wilson would most certainly rank as the Titans' worst-ever draft selection, as he only appeared in one game for the franchise. He was traded along with a seventh-round pick swap to the Miami Dolphins following his rookie season and never played another down in the NFL. QB is the most important position in the NFL, but Locker showed minor promise that their recent disappointments didn't quite show during their time with the Titans.
