Toronto's Kiki Rice Sustains Injury Late in Game Against New York Liberty

NEW YORK (AP) — In a tough matchup against the New York Liberty, Toronto Tempo rookie guard Kiki Rice exited the game late due to an injury. The incident occurred with just 1:33 remaining on the clock when Rice was knocked down after her shot was blocked, resulting in her visibly favoring her left ankle as she made her way off the court.

After the game, Toronto's head coach Sandy Brondello mentioned that there were no immediate updates regarding Rice's injury status. Before her departure, Rice contributed nine points and five rebounds to the team's efforts. The sixth overall pick in this year's draft was averaging 13.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game prior to the match.

“She’s a tough kid, but, yeah, it’s unfortunate,” Brondello commented on the situation. Rice had previously made headlines by leading UCLA to its first NCAA national championship just two months ago, marking a significant milestone in her young career.
