Tyler Callihan Celebrates First MLB Homer Against Ohtani in Thrilling Pirates Victory

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Tyler Callihan made a remarkable mark in his Major League Baseball career by hitting his first home run in a thrilling match against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Callihan's initial homer sailed 427 feet out of PNC Park, landing in the river, and came off the bat of star pitcher Shohei Ohtani during the fourth inning of the Pirates' narrow 9-8 victory.

This impressive performance didn't stop there; Callihan also hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning and drew two walks throughout the game, showcasing his powerful presence at the plate. His journey to this moment has been challenging; he previously played just four games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2025 before facing a setback due to a broken forearm.

The injury occurred on May 5 when he attempted to make a catch in the left-field corner during a game against the Atlanta Braves. Callihan, who was selected by the Reds in the third round of the 2019 draft, was traded to the Pirates in March in exchange for pitcher Kyle Nicolas. Recently, Nicolas was acquired by the Baltimore Orioles from the Reds in a cash deal.
