UNM men's golf misses cut at Bryan Regional, won't advance to national championship
The Lobos’ season is over.
New Mexico men’s golf finished 11 over par Tuesday at the Bryan Regional in Bryan, Texas, missing the cut to advance to the NCAA Division I Championship.
After carding a 13-over first round at Traditions Club on Monday, the Lobos finished even par and 2 under in the second and third rounds, respectively. The final two rounds of the 54-hole tournament were played Tuesday due to a forecast of inclement weather for Wednesday.
The top five finishers — Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee-Chattanooga, North Carolina and Tennessee — are set to advance to the NCAA Division I Championship (May 29-June 3). UNM will miss the national championship for the first time since 2022 after finishing in 11th in a field of 14.
Johnnie Clark finished 2 over on the week to lead the Lobos, recording UNM’s only two rounds under par. The junior Oklahoma State transfer carded an even-par 72 in the second round and a 3-under-par 69 in the third to finish in a tie for 26th place on the individual leaderboard.
Wyatt Provence finished the regional at 6 over while Emil Albers concluded the week at 8 over. Mesa Falleur and Thayer Plewe both closed the week at 7 over.
UNM was named a 4-seed for the Bryan Regional after finishing the regular season as the 21st-ranked team in the country and falling to UNLV in a playoff at the Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship.
The Lobos won the team title at two tournaments — the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate in May and The Wohali in September — and saw three golfers win individual titles: Falleur at The Goodwin and the Windon Memorial Classic, Clark at the Thunderbird Collegiate and Albers at the William H. Tucker Invitational.
Four Lobos — Clark, Falleur, Plewe and Albers — were named All-Mountain West, tying the program record for all-conference honorees. Plewe was also named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year.
