UNM Reveals Thematic Plans for Home Football Games
Last week, the University of New Mexico finalized the schedule and broadcast details for its upcoming 2026 football season, confirming times for all 12 games. The Lobos will kick off their season on September 5 against Central Michigan, with the game set to be aired on FS1 at 8 p.m.
In an exciting announcement made on Monday, UNM unveiled a variety of themes for each of its six home games. The opening game against Central Michigan will introduce the "Real Ones" theme, celebrating returning athletes in football, men's basketball, and softball. Season-ticket holders who purchased the "Real Ones" package will receive a special Jason Eck bobblehead during this event.
Following the opener, the Lobos will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Night during their game against UTEP on September 12 and will recognize Homecoming on October 24 when they face North Dakota State. Later in the season, Indigenous Heritage Night will coincide with the crucial matchup against UNLV on November 14, while the regular season finale on November 27 against Air Force will feature Salute to Service and Senior Day activities.
Although specific game promotions have yet to be disclosed, the themes promise to add excitement to the season. "From Cherry Out to Homecoming to Salute to Service — every game tells a story," the Lobos’ official social media urged fans as they prepare for a vibrant season at University Stadium.
In addition to the thematic announcements, UNM recently hosted its first prospect camp of the summer, attracting numerous high school recruits eager to showcase their skills. A second camp is scheduled for June 12, as the Lobos continue to build their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
