USD Basketball: Eric Peterson's Revamped Coyote Roster for the Upcoming Season
VERMILLION — Eric Peterson has shown remarkable resilience in managing the Coyote basketball team during the 2025-26 season, despite facing significant adversities. With a multitude of injuries depleting the roster, the USD men's team even sought NCAA permission to add two additional players. In an extraordinary effort to maintain competitiveness, Peterson guided his team to a .500 record, including an 8-8 performance in conference play, and secured a season sweep over their rival, South Dakota State.
As Peterson approaches the final year of his contract, he now confronts the challenge of rebuilding his roster after ten players entered the transfer portal, including Isaac Bruns, who transferred to USC, and Jordan Crawford, who moved to Missouri. To address this, Peterson has welcomed three incoming freshmen and made significant strides in the transfer market, acquiring nine new players. This diverse group comprises established Division II athletes, junior college prospects, and veterans from power conferences.
“We visited every section of the grocery store to get these guys,” Peterson humorously remarked about his recruitment strategy. He provided insights into what fans can expect from the new additions:
Brandon Domsch, a 6-7 forward from North Platte Community College, is described as an "athletic player" with versatility. Illiam Fevry, a 6-5 guard from Arizona Western, brings overseas experience and a strong defensive presence. Cade Kelderman, a 6-1 guard from Iowa State, is noted for his leadership and tenacity on the court. Additionally, point guard Kajus Kublickas, who was part of Florida's national championship team, is expected to enhance the team's offensive flow.
Other notable transfers include Tyler Netolicky, a 6-10 forward/center praised for his rebounding, and Melo Sanchez, a sharpshooter from Central Connecticut State. Josh Townley-Thomas, a physical defender at 6-10 from Creighton, and Stef Van Bussel, a 6-10 center with a strong work ethic, are also expected to contribute significantly. Lastly, Elisha Warren, a guard from D'Youngville, is recognized for his scoring ability and defensive skills.
Among the three freshmen, Michael Nee stands out as a potential instant impact player. The 6-3 guard from Lombard, IL, is heralded as one of the top shooters in the state, according to Peterson, who believes he is the highest-ranked recruit joining the program this season.
