Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Encouraged to Focus on Future After Record IPL Performance
NEW DELHI: Rising cricket star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made a significant impact in the IPL, demonstrating the potential for a successful career ahead, according to seasoned umpire and referee Virender Sharma. With a wealth of experience officiating in various formats of cricket, Sharma highlights Sooryavanshi’s recent performances as a promising sign of his future in the sport.
Sharma referred to the young batsman as an "amazing talent," commending his natural abilities, strength, and exceptional hand-eye coordination. "Is amazing talent. Whatever I have seen him during the last few IPLs, it's amazing. I mean he's got so good strength in his arms and all. Good eyes, good hand-eye coordination, good for India that I'm looking forward to see him for, I mean for two, three years more then I can say anything about his progress," Sharma remarked.
Sooryavanshi has captivated fans with his aggressive batting style and knack for taking on seasoned bowlers, establishing himself as one of India's most exciting young cricketers. Consistent performance in the IPL—where athletes face elite competition under pressure—is often seen as a strong predictor of future success on the international stage, according to Sharma.
When asked if Sooryavanshi could carry his IPL success into international cricket, Sharma expressed confidence in the young player's abilities. "Absolutely. If you see IPL is the most challenging tournament in the world. So if he's performing in IPL, it means that he's got the capability, he's got the ability to score runs in front of, you know, many foreign players, many foreign bowlers. So if he is successful in IPL, definitely he will do some wonder for India in the international match," he stated.
Following a record-setting IPL 2026 season, where he emerged as the top run-scorer with 776 runs—including a century and five fifties at an impressive strike rate of 237.30—Sooryavanshi has earned his first call-up to the national team.
