Veteran NHL Forward Marcus Johansson Moves to Sweden After Long Career

After a notable 16 seasons in the NHL, former Boston Bruins forward Marcus Johansson is making a return to his roots by signing with Farjestad BK in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). The club confirmed his signing on Friday, marking a new chapter in Johansson's career.

Johansson's decision to join the SHL follows a productive season with the Minnesota Wild, where he played in 75 games and achieved impressive statistics, including 15 goals, 34 assists, and a total of 49 points, along with a plus-18 rating. Given his strong performance, he likely would have attracted interest from other NHL teams had he chosen to enter free agency on July 1.

The 32-year-old Swede joined the Bruins during the 2018-19 season when he was traded from the New Jersey Devils. In his tenure with Boston, he made a notable impact, contributing one goal and three points in 10 regular-season games, and adding four goals and 11 points over the course of 22 playoff games during the team's run in 2019.

Over the course of his NHL career, Johansson has played 1,058 games, representing teams such as the Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Seattle Kraken, and Minnesota Wild. His career totals stand at 200 goals, 366 assists, and 566 points.
