Vote for Argus Leader Athlete of the Week from May 11-16

High school baseball and tennis are in the postseason, and track and field and softball are following close behind. That lead to some big-time showing in the last week.

Here are the nominees for the Argus Leader's high school Athletes of the Week for May 11 to 16. ArgusLeader.com readers vote to decide this week's winner. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 22.

Athletes are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Boys

Bennett Duncan, Sr., O’Gorman 

Duncan had a big series in the Class A Super Regional against Sioux Falls Roosevelt, going 6-for-9 on the week with a double, a walk, six RBIs and five runs scored. The senior also tossed five innings, giving up three runs on three hits and five walks with nine strikeouts.

Javon Haukaas, Sr., Sioux Falls Lincoln 

Haukaas was a part of the 4x200-meter relay team with Isaac Herrboldt, Zyan Conrad and Evan Abild that broke the state record with a time of 1:26.10, but what made him stand out at the Rich Greeno Meet was another near-state record run. The senior ran a 10.45 in the 100-meter dash, tying for second in South Dakota history. He also won the 200-meter dash at the meet. 

Alex Rallis, Sr., Harrisburg 

Rallis won a pair of Eastern South Dakota league championships on Tuesday, May 12. The senior went through the first singles tournament with 10-2, 10-0 and 10-9(3) wins. He then teamed up with Jackson Hancock to win the first singles bracket with 10-1, 10-3 and 10-3 victories. 

Bryton Stroh, Sr., Brandon Valley 

Stroh helped Brandon Valley to a perfect week, including two wins over Sioux Falls Washington in the Class A Super Regionals. The senior went 7-for-8 at the dish with a home run, two walks, five RBIs and six runs scored.

Kade Wede, Jr., Harrisburg 

Wede dominated in the opening game of Harrisburg’s Class A Super Regional against Tea Area. The junior hurler went all seven innings, getting 17 of his 21 outs by strikeout. He allowed an unearned run on one hit and a walk. 

Girls 

Shelby Bergan, Jr., Brandon Valley 

Bergan was a standout at the Eastern South Dakota league meet, winning the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.04 seconds. The junior also came in second of the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.19 seconds, was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 25.45 seconds and anchored the 4x200-meter relay team that placed second.

Brooklyn Herrera, Sr., Sioux Falls Jefferson 

Herrera had a monster week for Sioux Falls Jefferson, hitting a home run in three of the four games she played. The senior slugger ended the week 8-for-12 with three home runs, eight RBIs, six runs scored, two walks and three stolen bases as the Cavaliers moved to a perfect 18-0. 

Peyton LaFramboise, Jr., Harrisburg 

LaFramboise ran her season home run total to nine with four more blasts in the last week. The junior went 12-for-17 at the dish over four games, knocking in 13 runs, scoring eight, drawing a walk and stealing a base. The Tigers also picked up their second win over Sioux Falls Washington to start the week. 

Anessa Pickner, Jr., Sioux Falls Lincoln 

Pickner was a large contributor during Sioux Falls Lincoln’s six-game winning streak, which came to an end on Friday, May 15 at Rapid City Stevens. Pickner contributed eight hits in 14 at bats with a double, two home runs, nine RBIs, four runs scored and a walk in wins over O’Gorman, Sturgis Brown and Spearfish. 

Lily Tadlock, Sr., Sioux Falls Roosevelt 

Tadlock shined at the Rich Greeno Meet, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.18 seconds, her personal best time. The senior sprinter also helped the 4x100-meter relay team place second and anchored the 4x400-meter relay team that came in fourth.
