Vote for The Norwich Bulletin Athlete of the Week for May 11-16

Norwich Tech’s Carlie Brown has been voted The Bulletin athlete of the week for May 4-9.

The Warriors sophomore went 5-for-5 with a triple and was also the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts in a 24-8 softball victory over Grasso Tech. 

Last week saw plenty of standout performances in baseball, softball, boys outdoor track and field, girls outdoor track and field, boys golf, and girls lacrosse across Eastern Connecticut. While there's no shortage of talent, we went and found the best of the best.

Norwich Tech sophomore Carlie Brown was voted The Bulletin Athlete of the Week for May 4-9.

Here are the nominees: 

Amelia Gray, Griswold

The Wolverines freshman won both the 100 (13.3) and long jump (personal best 14-3) to lead Griswold past Plainfield, 63.5-54.5, in a girls outdoor track and field meet.

Hailey Haggett, Ellis Tech

The Golden Eagles junior went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs scored as Ellis Tech edged Grasso Tech in girls softball, 14-13, at Groton. 

Tyler Hollis, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats junior earned medalist honors to help NFA win the CIAC Spring Golf Classic at the Grassy Hills Country Club in Orange. Hollis shot a tournament best 36 amongst a field of 13 teams.   

Hollis also earned medalist honors with a 35 in NFA’s 7-0 win against Woodstock Academy at Norwich Golf Course. 

Riley Lewis, Plainfield

The Panthers sophomore had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs to help Plainfield top Griswold, 15-8, in girls softball.

Riley Ritchotte, Killingly

The Trailblazers senior scored an overtime goal to lift Killingly to their second win of the season, an 8-7 victory over Wheeler. Ritchotte scored two goals, including her 100th career goal. 

 Ritchotte also scored seven goals in Killingly’s 17-2 win against Griswold.  

Jeremiah Smith, Killingly

The Trailblazers senior won the 110 hurdles (16.38), 300 hurdles (45.75), high jump (6-2), and long jump (personal best 20-11) in Killingly’s 105-26 boys track and field victory against Putnam.

Carter Stringer, Norwich Free Academy

The Wildcats junior right-hander tossed a complete game two-hitter to lead NFA to a 6-1 non-league baseball victory against Cheshire. Stringer struck out 10 and walked one.

Kyle Stringer, Norwich Tech

The Warriors junior lefthander tossed a complete game shutout with 14 strikeouts to lift Norwich Tech baseball past Vinal Tech, 2-0. Stringer allowed just two hits and walked none. 

Mason Tavernier, Plainfield

The Panthers junior right-hander allowed just one earned run and struck out eight in a complete game performance to lift Plainfield to an 8-1 non-league baseball win against Wilbur Cross in New Haven. Tavernier also had a triple and scored two runs.

Lyric Teevan, Ellis Tech

The Golden Eagles senior went 3-for-4 with two doubles in a 10-1 baseball win over Grasso Tech. Teevan also drove in three runs and scored two runs.

Jessie Williams, Killingly

The Trailblazers junior short won both the long jump (17-0) and triple jump (personal best, 34.5) in a girls outdoor track and field meet against Putnam. Killingly fell short, 79.7-66.33.
