Washington football offers high-end 2028 Utah defensive lineman

The Washington Huskies are looking to add some high-impact defensive linemen in the 2028 class, which led Jedd Fisch's coaching staff to Utah to extend an offer to one of the nation's best.

Defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi added UW's name to the mix for four-star edge rusher Major Stokes, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound product of Orem High School, who is ranked as the No. 86 overall prospect and No. 14 edge rusher by 247Sports.

Stokes now holds 29 offers from some of the nation's top programs, as Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, USC, and many more push for his services. When looking at his film and high school production, it's not hard to see why.

During his sophomore year at Crimson Cliffs High School, Stokes was among the nation's most productive players. He compiled 66 tackles, 29.5 for loss, with 11 sacks and a fumble, while showing off traits that could help make him an immediate impact at the college level.

Stokes shows off an impressive first step and impressive natural power on film, consistently beating opposing offensive tackles with both speed and power off the edge. With his frame, which has plenty of room to add weight, and his ability to transition between odd and even fronts with ease, he looks like the type of prospect that defensive coordinator Ryan Walters covets: a player who can set the edge against the run and shift inside on passing downs to win against interior offensive linemen with speed and quickness.

The Huskies have already made some major headway in the 2028 class after making the top six for five-star edge rusher Jalanie George on Friday, and also hosting five-star Landen Wade for an unofficial visit. If Kaufusi and outside linebackers coach Aaron Van Horn can build a strong relationship with Stokes, Washington could be in a great position to build a high-end class along the defensive front.
