Will Power Quips About Alex Palou's Pole Dominance Ahead of Detroit Grand Prix

DETROIT – Alex Palou has secured his third consecutive pole position in IndyCar, denying Will Power the chance to extend his record of 71 career poles as they prepare for the Detroit Grand Prix, where Power will start alongside Palou in second place. Following the qualifying session, Power expressed mild disappointment at not being able to disrupt Palou's impressive streak.

"I was close to pole, man," Power remarked just before Palou entered the post-qualifying press conference. "Damn. Just that one guy all the time." In a lighthearted moment, Power suggested that Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports, should entice Palou to join Formula 1, where he could potentially drive for the new Cadillac F1 team.

"It's not impossible because that's where I started, where he was," Power said, referring to Palou's impressive rise in the sport. "Depends how long he goes. Might convince Dan to put him in F1 if he gets close," he added with a laugh.

When Palou eventually joined the conference, Power reiterated his joke, prompting Palou to respond that TWG Motorsports should focus on promoting their current IndyCar drivers to higher levels rather than pursuing him for F1. "I'm good here," Palou stated. "They can take Colton and Kyle (Kirkwood)." Palou had previously considered shifting to F1 when he signed a contract with Arrow McLaren, though he ultimately decided to remain with Chip Ganassi Racing.

Having already claimed one Indy 500 victory and four IndyCar championships, the 29-year-old Palou is currently leading the standings as he aims for a fifth title this year, firmly entrenched in his quest to surpass the records set by legends like Power.
