Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Faces Setback After Calf Injury While Running Bases
The New York Yankees will have to wait longer for designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton to return, as he has suffered a setback by reinjuring his calf during base running exercises. Stanton, who was eager to rejoin the team on Wednesday after a two-month absence due to a right calf strain, is now set to be reevaluated next week and will have a “light week” of activities ahead.
When asked if he felt he had returned to square one due to this latest injury, Stanton replied, “I don’t know,” but did acknowledge that the sensations in his calf are reminiscent of the initial injury he sustained against the Houston Astros on April 24.
With Aaron Judge also sidelined for an indefinite period, the Yankees are keen to reintegrate Stanton into the lineup, although a timeline for his return remains uncertain. Over the past eight seasons, Stanton has only managed to play more than 139 games in a single year, but when healthy, he is considered one of the most formidable power hitters in baseball, currently sitting just 44 home runs shy of the 500 mark.
