Yaxel Lendeborg Reflects on Challenging Path to 2026 NBA Draft
As the 2026 NBA draft approaches, Yaxel Lendeborg is fully immersed in an intense preparation schedule. The senior from Michigan is determined to make a significant impact on the court. Last season, Lendeborg earned recognition as a consensus first-team All-American, posting impressive averages of 15.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 1.1 steals, while connecting on 37.2% of his three-point attempts. He was also named the Big Ten Player of the Year and received first-team all-conference honors.
The 6-foot-9 forward has already participated in seven team workouts, with two more lined up before he fully shifts his focus to the draft. The rigorous nature of this preparation has left little room for relaxation. "It has been very, very tough," Lendeborg shared on Thursday after a workout with the Golden State Warriors. "Not many days for breaks or rest. I don't think I've gotten a day off yet, but it is very fun. You get to learn a lot of new things, meet a lot of new people and just learn the way you're going to be living pretty much next year. It is all a learning point for me."
Lendeborg excelled during the postseason, guiding Michigan to its second national championship and becoming the first Wolverine to achieve three consecutive 20-point games in the NCAA Tournament since 1994. His standout performance earned him the MVP title for the Midwest region.
At 23 years old, Lendeborg is projected as a lottery pick, likely one of the few upperclassmen in a draft class largely dominated by freshmen. His strengths include exceptional scoring, rebounding, and the versatility to defend various positions. Although he has faced scrutiny regarding his age compared to younger prospects, he remains unfazed. "If you can play, you can play," Lendeborg stated. "A lot of these younger prospects have been in the spotlight a little longer than I was, been playing since they were younger. Everybody's path is different. Every time I get on the court, I'm going to showcase that. Whether that is a guy who is 30 or 18, I'm going to go out there and show who is better."
