All Players Acquired in Brewers Trade Now Part of Red Sox Roster

The Boston Red Sox are facing criticism following a controversial trade with the Milwaukee Brewers that occurred in February, which involved sending Kyle Harrison, David Hamilton, and Shane Drohan to Milwaukee in exchange for Claeb Durbin, Anthony Seigler, and Andruw Monasterio. The deal has raised eyebrows, particularly as Harrison has emerged as one of the standout pitchers in the league this season, achieving seven wins in just 11 starts and boasting an impressive 1.57 ERA over 57.1 innings.

Drohan has also performed well out of the bullpen, while Hamilton continues to struggle, maintaining a batting average around .200, similar to his time in Boston. Initially, it appeared that the Red Sox had traded away a potential Cy Young candidate for a struggling third baseman and a pair of less recognized prospects.

However, the narrative shifted when Seigler was called up to the major league roster to take the place of utility player Nick Sogard, who was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier this week. This move means that all three players obtained in the trade are now in the Red Sox clubhouse.

Durbin has played as the starting third baseman for the entire season, while Monasterio has contributed with 31 appearances, primarily filling in for the injured Trevor Story at shortstop, where he is hitting .239. Seigler, who was recovering from a knee injury earlier in the year, had been performing well with Triple-A Worcester, batting just under .300 with an OPS of .896 before his call-up. Known for his versatility, Seigler can play multiple infield positions, and interim manager Chad Tracy highlighted his keen eye at the plate, stating, "Very good eye at the plate, takes his walks and does damage against right-handed pitching." Tracy suggested that Seigler's presence will provide valuable support as an additional left-handed option off the bench.
