Andrea Gilbo to Strengthen Austria Wien After Transfer from St Pölten
Andrea Gilbo has officially committed to joining Austria Wien, moving from league opponents St Pölten ahead of the next season. The 24-year-old forward has inked a contract with the Violets that extends until the summer of 2028.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the move, Gilbo stated, “The talks with Austria Wien, their vision for the future, and the club’s structure gave me a very good feeling. For several years now, you can see the development of the Violets and I think there’s still a lot of potential in this team. I’m looking forward to the upcoming challenges in the league and the Champions League qualifiers.”
Born in Tyrol in 2002, Gilbo's Croatian heritage has seen her represent the Croatian youth national team throughout her development. Her professional journey began at SK Rum before she made a significant step up with Wacker Innsbruck, debuting with their first team in 2019. After a stint at SK Sturm Graz lasting three seasons, she joined the reigning champions, SKN St. Pölten, in 2024, where she played for the past two years.
Stefan Kenesei, the head coach of Austria Wien, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, “With Gilbo, we’ve gained a player who combines a goal-scoring threat and creativity at the highest level. She not only possesses a pronounced finishing instinct but also an eye for the decisive final pass, which allows her to significantly influence matches. Furthermore, Andrea is an extremely positive, humorous and cheerful character whose energy enriches any team. We are delighted to welcome her to Austria Vienna.”
