The Los Angeles Angels couldn't afford many more poor outings or blown saves from their closer.
Before Sunday's game against the Royals, the AL West club announced a flurry of moves. However, most notable was their decision to designate right-hander Jordan Romano for assignment.
Romano signed a $2 million contract with the Angels during the offseason, but was thrust into the closer's role due to injuries to Ben Joyce and Robert Stephenson. Kirby Yates also began the year on the injured list.
Things didn't go so well for Romano, whose Angels tenure is likely to end six days after his 33rd birthday. He allowed nine earned runs and walked six in eight innings.

"Romano had a disastrous series against the Yankees that included five earned runs, two blown saves, and only one out recorded," Charlie Wright of MLB Trade Rumors wrote. "He briefly recovered in two lower-leverage outings, then blew up for four earned runs in a blowout against the Royals on Saturday. Romano was pulled mid-inning for infielderAdam Frazier."
Romano emerged as one of the best closers in baseball during four years from 2020-23 with the Toronto Blue Jays, but his back-to-back All-Star days may be over.
As well as his short time with the Angels.
