Anna Wile Shatters Records as Hilliard Davidson Girls Track Team Excels at State Championship

On June 7, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, the Hilliard Davidson girls track and field team showcased an impressive performance, concluding the Division I state championship in second place with 61 points, just behind Avon, which secured 68 points. Although they fell short of repeating their title, the Wildcats thrived on a day filled with record-breaking achievements, particularly from standout seniors Anna Wile and Celia Schulte.

Wile defended her championship in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 13.24 seconds, a time that not only earned her the title but also set new records for the OHSAA Division I, the state meet, and the stadium. Following closely behind was New Albany’s Ric’Keya White, who finished at 13.25 seconds. In the 300 hurdles, Wile continued her stellar performance, again breaking records with a time of 40.7 seconds. Additionally, she placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.08 seconds and contributed to the seventh-place finish of the 1,600 relay team.

“It was a great day,” Wile expressed. “I just trusted in my training all season and at the end of the day, you don’t have to do stuff crazy here at the state meet. You just have to compete and stay true to yourself, and that’s what I did and overall, just have fun.” Schulte, who anchored Davidson’s winning 3,200 relay, also defended her 800-meter title with a time of 2:10.86 and participated in the 1,600 relay alongside teammates Talia Mazzulo and Laken Wenclewicz.

In the 1,600 meters, Davidson's Erica Kaulen secured third place with a time of 4:54.15, outpacing Dublin Jerome’s Natalie Fouts and others. Reflecting on the team’s resilience, Wile stated, “We’ve had a few circumstances this past week that haven’t been what we expected, but overall, we pushed through.”

New Albany finished fourth in the overall standings with 40 points, followed by Gahanna in fifth with 39 points. Other notable performances included New Albany's Reese Holman, who triumphed in the high jump, and Gahanna’s relay teams that excelled across multiple events. As the championship concluded, the excitement and determination displayed by the athletes underscored the competitive spirit of the event.
