Anthony Gordon Discusses Choosing Barcelona Over Bayern Munich
During a recent match in Tampa, Florida, Anthony Gordon addressed his decision to join Barcelona, following his performance for England in a World Cup warm-up against New Zealand. Prior to his transfer, Bayern Munich had shown interest in the young forward, prompting questions about the timing of his move.
“It came from quite late but once I knew it was Barcelona there was never any doubt in my mind. Barca is the biggest club on the planet,” Gordon shared with ITV. The 21-year-old expressed gratitude towards both Newcastle and Barcelona for their support during the transition. “Both worked on my behalf and really looked after me throughout the process to get it done,” he added.
Gordon reflected on his excitement, stating, “It feels good, really happy, it’s been an amazing couple of weeks.” He noted that playing for Barcelona has been a lifelong aspiration. “To be a Barcelona player was a dream as a little kid so now I’ve really got to go on and win everything with them,” he emphasized.
In the friendly match, Gordon participated in the second half, contributing to England’s narrow 1-0 victory, with Harry Kane scoring the decisive goal. Marcus Rashford also featured, playing the opening 35 minutes before a complete lineup change by coach Thomas Tuchel at halftime.
