Aroldis Chapman Seeks Apology from Yankees GM Before Considering Return

Aroldis Chapman, currently pitching for the Boston Red Sox, hasn't buried the hatchet with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. In a recent interview with ESPN Deportes, Chapman expressed his awareness of trade speculations surrounding him as the Red Sox struggle at the bottom of the AL East with a disappointing 27-39 record, placing them six games behind a playoff position.

"Every day you see social media and also people in the press talking and commenting about it," Chapman remarked, highlighting the constant chatter about potential trades. With the MLB trade deadline approaching on August 3, the Red Sox may look to capitalize on the performance of their 38-year-old closer, who is in the final year of a $13 million contract.

The Yankees are anticipated to seek a reliable reliever as they eye the deadline, prompting questions about the possibility of Chapman returning to New York. However, for such a reunion to happen, Chapman insists that Cashman would need to offer an apology. Their prior relationship soured following Chapman's removal from the postseason roster in 2022, a decision linked to his absence from a mandatory workout and a tattoo-related infection that cost him the closer's role. Chapman's history with the Yankees dates back to a trade from the Cincinnati Reds in December 2015. He played a key role in the Yankees' bullpen before being traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2016, only to rejoin the Yankees later that same year on a lucrative contract.
