Arsene Wenger, the legendary manager, has come to the defense of Kylian Mbappe, asserting that the Real Madrid star has faced undue criticism throughout the current season. While Mbappe's early season performance was commendable, a series of injuries and inconsistencies, along with personal matters, have since affected his play.
Fans have also taken issue with Mbappe's off-field activities and media statements, which have contributed to the negative perception surrounding him. Wenger stated, “Kylian Mbappé has often been unfairly criticized at this season. He’s in a Real Madrid side that’s been average. Kylian has physical freshness, he’s not overworked. People tend to forget his exceptional talent. I’m willing to bet he has a great World Cup.”
Wenger pointed out that Real Madrid currently boasts only three or four world-class players, a stark contrast to the ten they once had. He emphasized the tendency to find a scapegoat in football, suggesting that Mbappe has unfortunately become that target this season. The challenges facing the club extend beyond just one player, indicating that broader changes are necessary for a return to success.
As the World Cup approaches, all eyes will be on Mbappe, who has historically excelled on the international stage, raising questions about how he will perform in the tournament.
