Buford Wolves Face Tough Road Ahead in 2026 Football Season
The 2026 high school football season is just around the corner, with official practices set to begin in under two months, marking the start of preview discussions. Today, we turn our attention to the Buford Wolves, the reigning champions of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class 6A, who finished last season ranked as the top team in the Rivals Composite Rankings.
Quarterback DJ Hunter, who served as the backup to Dayton Raiola last year, will take the reins this fall. In limited appearances, Hunter completed 16 of 24 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, while also showcasing his running skills with 40 yards and three rushing touchdowns. For Buford to maintain its championship status, Hunter will need to step up as a key player for the offense.
This season, the Wolves are aiming for their second consecutive GHSA Class 6A title, but they face one of their most challenging schedules yet. They kick off their campaign with a road matchup against North Carolina’s Mallard Creek on September 4, followed by a highly anticipated home game against Miami Central from Florida on September 11. The team is predicted to experience some early setbacks, with expectations to lose two of their first four games before rallying to win six straight, ultimately securing a playoff spot.
In terms of game predictions, the Wolves are projected to start strong against Gainesville (W), but face defeats against Miami Central (L) and Grayson (L). However, they are expected to bounce back with victories against Seckinger (W), Dacula (W), Collins Hill (W), Mill Creek (W), Discovery (W), and Central Gwinnett (W), finishing the regular season on a six-game winning streak.
Buford High School, located in Buford, Georgia, is recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and athletic success, often producing state championship-winning teams. As the Wolves prepare for the upcoming season, their focus will be on overcoming challenges and striving for another title run.
