Astros Dominate Brewers 9-2 with Power Hits from Walker and Peña
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 9-2, fueled by a powerful showing from Christian Walker and Jeremy Peña. Walker launched a three-run homer, while Peña contributed with a home run and a total of three hits, showcasing the Astros' offensive strength.
The game got off to a quick start when Milwaukee's William Contreras hit a two-out RBI double in the first inning, giving the Brewers an early advantage. However, Houston quickly responded as Cam Smith scored on a single from Jake Meyers, leveling the score. Peña then stepped up and hit a two-run homer, pushing the Astros ahead 3-1 in the second inning.
The Astros pulled further ahead in the fifth inning after the Brewers narrowed the gap to 3-2 with an RBI single from Jackson Chourio. After Walker was hit by a pitch, Houston capitalized on the opportunity, with Taylor Trammell hitting an infield single to extend the lead to 4-2. Isaac Paredes followed with a double, bringing in two more runs and pushing the score to 6-2.
Houston's starting pitcher, Peter Lambert (4-4), earned the win after allowing five hits and two runs over five innings. On the other side, Milwaukee's Brandon Sproat (1-4) struggled, giving up six hits and five runs in just over four innings. Walker capped off the Astros' scoring with a home run in the eighth, sealing the game at 9-2.
This victory marks the Astros' seventh win in their last nine games, while it ends the Brewers' four-game winning streak. Houston will look to continue its momentum in the series finale on Sunday with Tatsuya Imai (2-2, 6.17 ERA) taking the mound against Jacob Misiorowski (5-2, 1.83).
