Atlanta Braves Eye $22M Reliever from Mets in Strategic Trade Move
The Atlanta Braves are looking to bolster their already impressive bullpen by eyeing a potential trade for New York Mets reliever AJ Minter, who is currently under a $22 million contract. This move stands out as it is uncommon for division rivals to engage in trades, but the Braves are eager to enhance their pitching depth.
Atlanta's bullpen has been bolstered by the talents of Dylan Lee, Robert Suarez, and Raisel Iglesias, forming one of the most formidable trios in Major League Baseball. Collectively, they have allowed only three earned runs over 54 1/3 innings. However, the Braves have faced some challenges recently, particularly following the release of left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer due to a decline in his performance.
In a series of roster adjustments, the Braves have also placed catcher Drake Baldwin on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain and activated pitcher Dylan Dodd from the same IL. They have added catcher Chadwick Tromp to the roster while optioning right-hander JR Ritchie back to Triple-A.
With Bummer's departure, the Braves find themselves in need of a reliable left-handed option for high-pressure innings. Minter, who has just been activated by the Mets, could fill this gap effectively, especially in tight situations where Lee is unavailable.
As the trade deadline approaches, speculation about a deal continues to grow, with analysts like Scott Coleman from Battery Power forecasting that Minter could be in Atlanta's sights. This potential acquisition could significantly strengthen the Braves' chances as they aim for postseason success.
