Atlanta Braves Stay Optimistic Despite Injury Concerns for Michael Harris II
The Atlanta Braves are facing uncertainty regarding outfielder Michael Harris II, who is dealing with back discomfort. Manager Walt Weiss indicated on Friday that while there is a chance Harris II could be placed on the injured list, he remains hopeful that the player can still make an impact in the upcoming days.
Harris II was removed from Tuesday's game, which was later postponed, after experiencing tightness in his lower back following a single in the first inning. He has since missed additional games, including Friday's matchup. Fortunately, after a day off due to rain on Thursday, Harris II reported feeling better than anticipated, and the team was optimistic he would be ready to play.
This month has already seen Harris II struggle with back issues, needing to manage his discomfort after tightening up on June 5th. He briefly returned as a pinch-hitter on June 7th before resuming regular play on June 9th. The 25-year-old has been an essential part of the Braves’ lineup, boasting a .306 batting average, a .514 slugging percentage, and 14 home runs this season.
In Harris II's absence, Mauricio Dubón has filled in at center field, with Eli White also stepping in briefly. The Braves are already navigating challenges after star right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. was placed on the injured list due to a hamstring issue earlier in June. As the situation develops, the team remains hopeful that Harris II will recover quickly and return to the lineup.
