Atlanta Falcons Secure Drake London with Lucrative Four-Year Extension
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons have finalized a significant four-year contract extension with standout receiver Drake London, valued at $141 million. This deal positions London among the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL. Spotrac.com provided the financial specifics of the agreement, which the Falcons have not publicly confirmed.
London's new contract averages out to $35.25 million per year, placing him third in salary rankings for receivers, following Cincinnati's Ja'Marr Chase at $42.25 million and Seattle's Jaxon Smith-Njigba at $42.15 million. The agreement guarantees $100 million and has the potential to reach $150 million with performance incentives. Under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, he is set to earn approximately $16.8 million in 2026.
This extension will benefit the winner of the Falcons’ quarterback competition, which currently features Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa, a former Miami Dolphins quarterback who signed a one-year contract with Atlanta, is reportedly ahead in practice sessions while Penix recovers from knee surgery. Nonetheless, Penix has garnered praise from first-year head coach Kevin Stefanski for his recovery progress, raising hopes for his availability at the season's outset.
London, who was selected as a first-round pick by the Falcons in 2022, boasts impressive career statistics with 309 receptions, 3,961 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns across four seasons. He achieved personal bests in 2024 with 100 catches, 1,271 yards, and nine touchdowns, adding 68 receptions for 919 yards and seven touchdowns in the previous season.
In addition to London, the Falcons bolstered their receiving corps by signing Jahan Dotson to a two-year contract this offseason. Tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. also remains a critical element of Atlanta’s aerial attack. While the Falcons have focused on a strong running game led by Bijan Robinson, they may aim to enhance their passing strategy under Stefanski as they strive for their first winning season since 2017.
