Austin Green Expected to Step Back from No. 87 O'Reilly Car in 2026

Austin Green, who has been racing full-time for Peterson Racing Group in the NASCAR O'Reilly Series this season, may soon find himself on the sidelines. Reports indicate that Green is set to be replaced by Nick Sanchez in the No. 87 car, according to NASCAR journalist Joseph Srigley.

Beginning at the Pocono race, Sanchez will take over driving duties for the No. 87 vehicle, which would leave Green without a ride for most of the regular season. However, Green is expected to return for the two summer road course events at San Diego and Sonoma Raceway, allowing the team to evaluate its performance for the remainder of 2026.

Currently, Green ranks 24th in the point standings, positioned just ahead of Lavar Scott and behind Harrison Burton. Sanchez, who previously competed full-time with AM Racing until the team ceased operations, will now step into the No. 87 car. This transition could leave Green with limited opportunities to race, given the recent shutdown of AM Racing.
