Ben Stiller Speaks Out Against Violence Toward Spurs Fans by Knicks Supporters
On Monday, New York City witnessed a significant event as the New York Knicks faced off against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals, the first Finals match at Madison Square Garden since 1999. However, the excitement was marred by incidents involving a faction of Knicks fans who reacted violently to their team's defeat. Led by standout Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs secured a 115-111 victory, narrowing the Knicks' series lead to 2-1.
Following the game, disturbing videos circulated on social media, showing apparent assaults on fans wearing Spurs jerseys. While the authenticity of these clips remains uncertain, ABC News reported that “at least 21 people” were taken into custody. Renowned actor and Knicks supporter Ben Stiller expressed his disapproval of the situation.
“Being a Knick fan doesn’t mean being disrespectful to Spurs fans in any way…we get caught up during the games but we gotta show respect to our fellow humans…,” Stiller stated on X. His sentiment was echoed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who retweeted Stiller’s message, asserting, “Couldn’t agree more. We’ll win this series on the court (even if the refs refuse to call a flagrant on Wemby), not by targeting, harassing, or attacking Spurs fans. Knicks in 5.”
In a response to the violent incidents, Wembanyama expressed his surprise upon hearing about the attacks, emphasizing the need for sportsmanship. “But my thoughts, of course, is that, I mean, we can’t forget it’s a game. We’re just playing a game out there. And I am all for passion, but to the respect of each other. It’s unacceptable,” he remarked.
The Knicks and Spurs will meet again at Madison Square Garden for Game 4 on Wednesday night, as both teams continue their battle for the championship.
