Braves Likely to Pursue Major Trade for Two-Time Cy Young Winner Following Strider Injury

The Atlanta Braves recently celebrated their 46th victory of the season with a win against the New York Mets, continuing what has been an exhilarating year for the team. As they look to maintain their competitive edge, the Braves are navigating a challenging landscape of injuries.

Despite these setbacks, general manager Alex Anthopoulos has signaled the team's intention to explore trade opportunities as the deadline approaches. “I fully expect and hope that we will be engaged in trades come July. I'm not trying to overly excite anybody or promise anything. But if we're playing the way we are right now, we're going to be in there,” Anthopoulos remarked.

The urgency for a significant trade has intensified following the announcement that pitcher Spencer Strider has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to elbow inflammation. This decision follows his early exit during the fourth inning of a recent game against the Mets. In response, the Braves have called up right-hander Anthony Molina from Triple-A.

With Strider out of the lineup, the Braves may now be compelled to seek a substantial addition to their starting rotation. Sports Illustrated's Thomas Carelli has suggested that Tarik Skubal could be a prime target. The proposed trade would involve sending several prospects, including top-ranked Cam Caminiti and JR Ritchie, to the Tigers in exchange for Skubal.

Adding Skubal would significantly enhance the Braves’ pitching staff, which is already performing well this season. The team currently boasts the best record in Major League Baseball, leading the Dodgers by a substantial margin. Though Atlanta traditionally shies away from blockbuster trades, the current championship window presents a compelling case for pursuing such a move.

Should the Braves proceed with acquiring Skubal, they would only need to take on the remaining portion of his $32 million contract, potentially pairing him with Chris Sale to create a formidable left-handed duo on the mound. The team appears ready and eager to make a decisive move as they aim for a championship run.
