Brayan Bello Responds to Bullpen Speculation Before Being Sent to Triple-A
In a surprising move, Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy announced on Thursday evening that pitcher Brayan Bello has been optioned to Triple-A, following a season in which his ERA has fallen to the lowest in Major League Baseball. The decision comes after ongoing discussions surrounding Bello's performance throughout the year, particularly as the team has had to rely on an opener for him during his fifth season in the majors.
Despite some fans suggesting a shift to the bullpen for the 27-year-old right-hander, Bello firmly rejected that notion after a difficult outing where he allowed eight runs in just five innings. Through his translator, he expressed frustration over the ongoing speculation, stating, "First of all, just stop talking about bullpen and starting games. I've always been a starter, and when I've been successful as a starter, no one has questioned whether I have to be in the bullpen or starting games. So, starting from there, just stop that talk... I'm just having a bad season. That's it. It's not whether I'm a starter or a reliever; I'm just having a bad season."
Bello remains hopeful about turning his performance around, but Tracy's decision to option him has put that goal on hold for now. The Red Sox will continue to reassess their pitching strategy as they navigate a challenging season.
