Brazil Faces Setback as Raphinha Exits Match Against Haiti with Injury
Brazil's World Cup campaign has suffered a setback as winger Raphinha left the field with an injury during the first half of the match against Haiti. The 29-year-old attacker was instrumental in Brazil's early momentum but could not continue after going down late in the opening period.
Raphinha had already seen a goal ruled out for offside and narrowly missed another chance before Matheus Cunha opened the scoring with a deflected shot. The Manchester United player then doubled Brazil's lead with a striking finish in the 36th minute. However, as the half wound down, Raphinha was forced to leave the pitch and was substituted by Bournemouth's Rayan.
The severity of Raphinha's injury remains unclear, but he was able to walk off, raising concerns that he could face a recovery period similar to that of his Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal, who missed the last month of the season due to a hamstring issue.
Emma Hayes, head coach of the USWNT, highlighted the significance of Raphinha's absence, stating that it represents "a significant loss" for the Brazilian squad. Manager Carlo Ancelotti had previously labeled Raphinha among the top five players globally, underscoring the impact of losing such a key player at a critical juncture.
As Brazil prepares for their final group stage match against Scotland on June 24 in Miami, the team is also anxiously awaiting the return of Neymar, who is recovering from a leg injury. A victory will be crucial for Brazil to secure the top position in Group A, particularly with Morocco set to face Haiti.
