Brazil Optimistic About Neymar's Recovery Progress
Brazil faced a tough challenge on Saturday, managing only a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their opening match of Group C at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a contest made more difficult by the absence of star player Neymar. The forward is currently dealing with a right calf injury sustained on May 17 while playing for Santos FC.
According to ESPN, the Brazil Football Confederation announced on Tuesday that Neymar has made progress in his rehabilitation, having returned to the training pitch for the first time since arriving in the United States for the tournament. While this marks a positive development, Neymar still has a considerable journey ahead before he can take the field in the World Cup.
Neymar is recovering from a Grade II muscle injury, and Brazilian media outlets report that the medical team remains optimistic about his potential return for the knockout stages, assuming Brazil advances. Following the initial round of matches, Scotland currently tops Group C with three points after their 1-0 victory over Haiti on Saturday. Brazil's next challenge will be against Haiti on Friday, with a crucial encounter against Scotland set for June 24.
Given Brazil's shaky start, the team is under pressure to secure a win against Haiti, and they may need to triumph over Scotland to ensure their progression to the next round. Coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed hope that Neymar could rejoin the squad soon, emphasizing the importance of his leadership for the younger players. “Neymar is working very hard to recover as soon as possible,” Ancelotti stated. “Our expectation is that he will recover and rejoin the group next week.”
As the tournament unfolds, the Brazilian squad will rely on their emerging talents to fill the void left by Neymar until his return.
