After a brief break and a scheduled day off, the Cleveland Guardians made their way to Milwaukee for the first of a three-game matchup against the Brewers. The starting pitchers for the evening were Slade Cecconi and Robert Gasser, who delivered competitive performances. Cecconi managed to limit the Brewers to just one run over 5.2 innings, with the only blemish being a solo home run from Brice Turang, alongside three hits and two walks.
Backing up Cecconi, Brayan Rocchio showcased his defensive skills with a notable play at second base, helping to secure an out. Colin Holderman then stepped in to retire the side in the sixth inning. The scoreboard remained unchanged until the top of the seventh, when Stuart Fairchild earned a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and was brought home by Gabriel Arias, who had just returned from a rehab assignment, with a single to right, leveling the game at 1-1.
Hunter Gaddis took the mound in the bottom of the seventh, but a lead-off home run by Garrett Mitchell quickly shifted momentum back to the Brewers, putting them in front once again. In the top of the eighth, the Guardians faced challenges with runners in scoring position. After Travis Bazzana walked and advanced on a wild pitch, the Guardians were unable to capitalize, with Rhys Hoskins striking out and Daniel Schneemann walking to load the bases, only for Kyle Manzardo to also strike out, ending the threat without scoring.
Matt Festa took over pitching duties in the eighth and was supported by strong defensive plays that kept the inning quick and efficient, marked by a clean 11-pitch outing. Ultimately, the Brewers held on to win the first game of the series, finishing with a score of 2-1. Both teams recorded four hits and one error in a tightly contested match.
