Brewers Narrowly Fall to Phillies Despite Chourio's Two Home Runs
The Milwaukee Brewers faced a tough challenge against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night, ultimately losing 9-8 in a thrilling contest at American Family Field. After struggling offensively in their last game, the Phillies unleashed a barrage of 17 hits, significantly improving from their previous performance.
The scoring began in the second inning when Edmundo Sosa hit a home run off Brewers pitcher Shane Drohan, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead. They extended their advantage to 3-0 in the fourth inning thanks to key hits from Bryson Stott and JT Realmuto. However, the Brewers quickly responded. Garrett Mitchell launched a two-run homer in the fourth, and Jackson Chourio tied the game at 3-3 with his first home run of the night in the fifth inning.
Despite the Brewers' momentum, the game took a turn when relief pitcher Chad Patrick entered the game. After a single from Brandon Marsh, Patrick struggled, allowing five consecutive hits, including a three-run homer from Realmuto, which pushed the Phillies ahead 8-3.
Nonetheless, the Brewers showcased their resilience. Chourio added another two-run homer in the seventh, marking his fourth career game with multiple home runs. “He’s getting it. Be careful, it’s early but he’s getting it,” remarked Brewers manager Pat Murphy. In the eighth inning, the Brewers mounted a comeback, scoring five runs and closing the gap to 9-8. A wild pitch during pinch-hitter Andrew Vaughn’s at-bat allowed Mitchell to score, and Chourio contributed with an RBI single.
Despite the rally, the Brewers couldn't complete the comeback. With two runners on base, Brice Turang struck out, and William Contreras popped out to end the inning. In the ninth, Phillies closer Jhoan Duran retired the Brewers in order, sealing the victory for Philadelphia. The teams will face off again tomorrow in what promises to be an exciting rubber match, featuring pitchers Kyle Harrison for the Brewers and Cristopher Sanchez for the Phillies. “We’ll try to help Miz’s case out a little bit,” Murphy stated, looking ahead to the next game.
