Brewers Overpower Giants 8-3 as Harrison Shines with 12 Strikeouts
MILWAUKEE (AP) — In a commanding performance, Kyle Harrison struck out 12 batters, matching his season high, while Jake Bauers provided a significant offensive boost with a three-run homer, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.
Harrison (7-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings, surrendering just one run and extending his impressive streak to six wins in his last seven outings. This marked the fifth time in his career, and the third this season, that he struck out at least 10 hitters. The Brewers, currently leading the NL Central, now find themselves a season-best 16 games above .500. As he exited the game after throwing 106 pitches, Harrison was greeted with a standing ovation from the home crowd, while Alan Ashby struck out Buddy Kennedy to wrap up the sixth inning.
Bauers launched his team-leading 10th home run in the first inning, capitalizing on walks from Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio to set the tone early. The Giants managed to snap Harrison’s impressive scoreless streak with Willy Adames’ solo home run in the sixth, ending it at 23 innings.
In a late surge, the Giants narrowed the gap to 4-3 in the eighth inning with pinch-hit RBI singles from Bryce Eldridge and Jung Hoo Lee. However, the Brewers quickly responded, scoring four runs in the bottom half against Tristan Beck. Yelich delivered a two-run single, Chourio contributed an RBI double, and Brice Turang added another run with his second single of the night.
The Giants have struggled recently, losing seven of their last eight games under new manager Tony Vitello. In a move to shake things up, the team announced the hiring of Gary Pettis as their third base coach, shortly after reassigning Hector Borg to a player-development position.
Harrison, who made his major league debut with the Giants in 2023 before being traded to the Boston Red Sox in a deal involving Rafael Devers, was acquired by the Brewers in a trade during the offseason.
Looking ahead, the Giants are set to have right-hander Logan Webb (2-4, 4.82 ERA) on the mound for Wednesday's game, while the Brewers have yet to name their starting pitcher.
