Upton Teen Plays Pickup Basketball with Patriots Star Kayshon Boutte

Logan DeMarzo, a young athlete from Upton, received an exciting message from his brother Derek this past Saturday, prompting him to check Kayshon Boutte's Instagram. The New England Patriots wide receiver had announced he would be at King Street Memorial Park in Franklin for some casual basketball and football games. Intrigued, DeMarzo made the 20-mile drive to join in on the fun.

Over the weekend, DeMarzo participated in 5-on-5 basketball games alongside his brother and against Boutte. Having graduated from Nipmuc Regional High School in 2025, where he excelled in various sports, DeMarzo found himself on the court guarding the NFL player. “I was a little intimidated at first,” he admitted. “I would say I held my own. He got a few buckets on me, and I did end up scoring a few buckets on him.” DeMarzo reflected on a moment when Boutte effortlessly stole the ball, comparing it to “driving into a brick wall.”

During his senior football season, DeMarzo caught 32 passes for 614 yards and 6 touchdowns, and in his final game, he achieved impressive stats with 8 receptions for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also contributed to the Nipmuc basketball team, averaging 12.6 points per game, and was recognized as a Dual Valley Conference All-Star in volleyball.

Reflecting on his experience guarding Boutte, DeMarzo noted the wide receiver’s natural athleticism, stating, “He was just one of us, but is just way quicker and stronger.” He couldn’t help but marvel at the situation, thinking, “This guy was just in the Super Bowl and now I’m guarding him in a game of pickup.”

Boutte, who was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round in 2023, enjoyed connecting with community members through these informal games. “Just a friendly gathering... I think the kids enjoyed it; they are excited about it,” he shared. After spending the weekend playing sports and interacting with fans, he attended the Patriots’ mandatory minicamp, dispelling rumors about his future with the team. “I want to be in New England for the rest of my career,” Boutte stated, expressing his commitment to the franchise.

For the DeMarzo brothers, the weekend was not just about sports but also a memorable bonding experience. “It was definitely a unique experience,” Logan reflected, highlighting the special nature of meeting and playing with an NFL player.
