Brice Turang Shines as Brewers Dominate Giants 16-2
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brice Turang broke free from a challenging 0-for-21 streak by delivering a stellar performance, going 2 for 2 with a double and a triple in the Milwaukee Brewers' commanding 16-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. In addition to his hits, Turang walked twice, ensuring he reached base in all four of his at-bats. He started the scoring with a double in the first inning and followed up with a two-run triple off the center-field wall in the second.
This impressive win marked a season high for the Brewers, who accumulated 16 runs and 18 hits, despite not hitting any home runs. The team also matched their season record by drawing 11 walks. Both Christian Yelich and David Hamilton contributed significantly, each going 3 for 5 and scoring three times. Luis Rengifo also crossed home plate three times, while Yelich recorded two RBIs. Jackson Chourio added to the offensive onslaught, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
The Brewers have now won six of their last seven games, while the Giants have faced defeat in six of their last seven outings. In an unusual turn of events, Buddy Kennedy, an infielder who was called up earlier in the day, pitched the eighth inning for San Francisco.
Milwaukee quickly erased an early 2-0 deficit by exploding for seven runs against Landen Roupp (5-6) in the second inning. The Giants initially took the lead when Matt Chapman hit a two-run homer, marking his first long ball since March 31. During the Brewers’ explosive inning, six consecutive players reached base. Sal Frelick drove in Jake Bauers with a double, Rengifo followed suit with a single, and Hamilton reached with a bunt hit. Roupp then issued a walk to Yelich, loading the bases for Chourio, who doubled in two runs. Turang capped the rally with his triple, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly from William Contreras.
Roupp struggled, surrendering a career-high eight runs in four innings, matching his career high with five walks allowed. Chad Patrick (3-2) secured the win with a scoreless inning in relief of Shane Drohan, who gave up two runs over four innings.
Looking ahead, Trevor McDonald (2-2, 4.34) is set to start for San Francisco, while Kyle Harrison (6-1, 1.57) will take the mound for Milwaukee on Tuesday.
