Bristol Bears Upset Gloucester-Hartpury to Conclude Season on a High Note
Bristol Bears pulled off a surprising victory against the reigning Premiership Women's Rugby champions, Gloucester-Hartpury, winning 26-21 at Kingsholm on Sunday. The standout performer for Bristol was winger Reneeqa Bonner, who notched two tries and earned the player of the match accolade.
In addition to Bonner's impressive performance, Red Roses prop Sarah Bern and substitute hooker Holly Phillips also contributed to the Bears' success with crucial tries. This victory allowed Scott Lawson's team to finish their season in eighth place in the Premier 15s standings, despite what has been a challenging campaign.
Gloucester-Hartpury, having already secured the top position in the league, opted to rest several of their England international players as they prepare for next weekend's playoff semi-final. They aim to clinch the title for the fourth consecutive year.
In other league action, second-placed Saracens dominated Trailfinders Women with an 80-14 win, while Exeter Chiefs, already assured of third place, triumphed 50-24 over Sale Sharks, marking their fourth consecutive victory.
Trailfinders Women finished fourth with seven wins and will face Gloucester-Hartpury in the semi-finals at 14:00 BST on Sunday. Saracens will host Exeter Chiefs later that day at 16:30 BST. The victors of these matches will advance to the final on June 28 at Twickenham Stoop. In another match, Loughborough Lightning secured a 50-36 victory against Leicester Tigers, climbing to sixth place in the standings.
