TORONTO (AP) — Brittney Sykes delivered a standout performance, matching her career-best with 38 points, leading the expansion Toronto Tempo to a thrilling 106-102 overtime victory against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday in Commissioner’s Cup action. The Tempo, now with a record of 7-5, secured their fourth win in five games, overcoming a 14-point deficit in the second quarter.
Sykes was impeccable at the free-throw line, hitting all 13 attempts, including four crucial shots in the final 1:19 of regulation. Joining her in the scoring effort, Marina Mabrey contributed 21 points, while Laura Juskaite added 19.
Aaliyah Edwards, hailing from Kingston, Ontario, had an impressive outing for the Sun (2-12), scoring a career-high 24 points and making 8 of 9 field goal attempts. Leila Lacau also scored 24 points for Connecticut.
Looking ahead, the Sun will host Indiana on Saturday, while the Tempo will travel to face Washington on Friday night.
