Broncos TE Dallen Bentley 'super excited' to join Sean Payton's offense
The Denver Broncos may have landed a late-round steal when they picked Utah tight end Dallen Bentley in the seventh round of the NFL draft last month.
Bentley had a breakout year in his final season with the Utes, hauling in 48 receptions for 620 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games.
“Biggest strengths, I think I’m a really great hybrid tight end who’s able to go out there and make some big plays in the passing game and stick my hand in the dirt and make some big plays there," Bentley said during a conference call after being picked by Denver in April. "I have great hands, so I don’t drop balls, so you can trust me in some situations."
Bentley was also asked how he can improve. Like many tight end prospects coming out of college, Bentley has work to do to improve his blocking.
"I’m always looking for things to improve on," Bentley said. "Specifically right now, some things I’m working on are just getting a lot of improvement on my hand strength in the blocking game.”
Bentley will now join an offense led by coach Sean Payton, who has produced several star tight ends in his career.
“I’m super excited," Bentley said. "I’m thrilled, super excited to be part of the Broncos team and work under him, and his offense and be a part of that tight end group. So I’m super thrilled.”
Following rookie minicamp earlier this month, Bentley will report back to the team's facility for organized team activities (OTAs) in early June, followed by a mandatory minicamp in mid-June. After that, training camp will be on deck, with practices expected to begin in late July.
