Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines as IPL's Youngest Star with Record-Breaking Performances
NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old batting prodigy, has taken the IPL 2026 by storm with his remarkable ability to change the dynamics of a match within a few overs. His explosive performances have captivated fans and analysts alike, marking him as the standout player of the tournament.
The Rajasthan Royals opener concluded the season as the leading run-scorer, amassing an impressive 776 runs over 16 innings at an astonishing strike rate of 237.30. Sooryavanshi also made history by hitting a record 72 sixes, breaking the previous record of 59 set by cricket legend Chris Gayle.
One of his most notable displays came in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored a breathtaking 97 runs off just 29 deliveries, securing his team a spot in Qualifier 2. Although the Royals fell short against Gujarat Titans in that match, with a seven-wicket loss, Sooryavanshi's fearless batting continued to turn heads, as he scored 96 runs in that game as well.
Krunal Pandya, an all-rounder for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was among those who were impressed by Sooryavanshi's talent. Reflecting on their match-up, Krunal shared his thoughts on the young player's potential. “Oh, yeah. We played one game against RR in Guwahati. In fact, I got his wicket as well,” he said. He went on to commend Sooryavanshi's skill, stating, “But boy, what a talent! At 15! Generational talent. To bat like that at 15. Even if you are 30, 40, or 25, to bat like this is commendable. But 15? And he’s not just slogging. That boy has brains.”
Krunal highlighted Sooryavanshi's strategic approach during crucial matches, noting, “Look at how he batted in Qualifier-2 vs GT. He played the situation. I’m very eager to see how he continues his journey forward in the next ten years.”
