Browns Acquire Jared Verse in Major Trade with Rams
The Cleveland Browns executed a significant trade on Monday, parting ways with star defensive player Myles Garrett. In exchange for Garrett, the Browns received Jared Verse, a first-round draft pick, along with a second- and third-round pick from the Los Angeles Rams. This move reflects Cleveland's ambition to bring in a promising young talent to strengthen their defense.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Browns had their eyes set specifically on Verse, a player they believe can fill the void left by Garrett. While Verse may not yet match Garrett's elite status, his potential is evident. The former Defensive Rookie of the Year recorded an impressive 100 quarterback pressures in 2025, up from 89 in his debut season.
Despite his strong pressure numbers, Verse has room for improvement in converting those opportunities into sacks. He finished his rookie year with 4.5 sacks and increased that total to 7.5 in 2025. At 26 years old, the Browns will have him under contract for three additional years, including the fifth-year option, giving them a solid foundation for the future.
This trade marks a pivotal moment for the Browns as they look to reshape their defense while still remaining competitive in the league.
