Cacace Believes Wrexham Can Reach New Heights This Season
Wing-back Liberato Cacace is optimistic that Wrexham can capitalize on their recent successes and secure promotion to the Premier League. The team narrowly missed out on a Championship play-off spot last season, finishing behind Hull City, who went on to claim the title.
"We made a good step last season in the Championship so it's a matter of just building on that," Cacace shared with BBC Sport Wales. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the squad while hoping to retain their current talent as they head into the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old, who is currently in Florida with the New Zealand national team preparing for the World Cup, will return to the U.S. for Wrexham’s pre-season training later this summer. The club has scheduled matches against notable teams including Leeds United, Liverpool, and Sunderland.
Reflecting on his first year with Wrexham after joining from Empoli in July, Cacace described it as "frustrating" due to injuries that limited him to just 13 appearances. "I just got caught in the cycle of injuries and I really hope it's all behind me," he remarked, noting that missing a significant portion of pre-season contributed to his inconsistent performance.
Looking ahead, Cacace is determined to return in better physical condition, stating, "This summer I'll definitely be in a better place for my body when I join back with the team." He is set to spend most of the summer in the States as he prepares for the upcoming season.
