Padres Suffer 5-0 Defeat to Mets, Marking 10 Losses in Their Last 11 Games

San Diego, California - The San Diego Padres (32-30) faced another disappointing night on the baseball field, losing 5-0 to the New York Mets (28-35) at Petco Park. This defeat adds to a troubling trend for the Padres, who have now lost 10 out of their last 11 games, including two sweeps against the Philadelphia Phillies and a 1-2 series against the Washington Nationals.

“They're all disappointing,” said Padres manager Craig Stammen. “Anytime you lose, it's disappointing, and especially when you don’t score any runs. Don't get any momentum going. Very disappointing.” The Padres struggled offensively, failing to advance any runner past first base without the aid of a walk and managing only three singles throughout the game.

The team’s offensive woes have been glaring, particularly during a recent six-game series against the Phillies where they went just 1-for-31 with runners in scoring position. With Ramón Laureano now sidelined for the season due to a hip injury, the lineup is in dire need of improvement rather than just minor adjustments.

Starting pitcher Michael King had a rough outing, giving up four earned runs over six innings while striking out four. “Some good, some bad,” Stammen remarked about King's performance. “Couple homers kind of cost him tonight.” The Mets took an early lead when Jared Young hit a solo home run in the second inning, followed by a misplay by Fernando Tatis Jr. that allowed Bo Bichette to drive in another run.

In the ninth inning, closer Mason Miller made an appearance, marking just his third outing since a blown save on May 19. However, he too struggled, giving up two hits and one earned run, bringing the score to 5-0 after a Brett Baty RBI single. “We’re obviously grinding both sides of the ball,” King noted. “We just got to lean on each other and know that tomorrow's another day.” The Padres are set to try and turn things around on Saturday night, with Nolan McLean scheduled to pitch against Griffin Canning at 7:10 p.m.
