Caissie’s Stellar Performance Guides Marlins to Narrow Victory Over Giants

MIAMI (AP) — Owen Caissie nearly achieved a cycle, showcasing his skills with a home run, a double, and a single, while also contributing a crucial sacrifice fly that led the Miami Marlins to a 4-3 victory against the San Francisco Giants on Friday evening. The win solidified Miami's strong June performance, as they currently boast an impressive record of 12-4 this month.

Javier Sanoja played a pivotal role for the Marlins, recording two hits and crossing the plate twice. The turning point came in the seventh inning when Giants reliever Sam Hentges (1-2) hit Esteury Ruiz with a pitch. Following Ruiz, Sanoja connected for a single, and Liam Hicks then tied the game with another single, allowing Sanoja to advance to third. Caissie’s fly ball to deep left field brought Sanoja home, putting Miami ahead.

Cade Gibson (1-0) earned the win after retiring all four batters he faced. Calvin Faucher took over in the eighth and secured the final two outs, while Pete Fairbanks completed the game with a flawless ninth, marking his 10th save of the season and the 100th of his career. The Marlins utilized eight pitchers throughout the game in a strategic bullpen effort.

The Giants had their moments, with Rafael Devers hitting a homer off Marlins pitcher Michael Petersen in the sixth, leveling the score at 2-2. San Francisco starter Landen Roupp pitched six innings, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out seven batters, yet he remains without a win since April 26. Roupp’s performance was impressive, but ultimately it was Caissie’s night under the spotlight.

Looking ahead, the Giants will have right-handed pitcher Trevor McDonald (2-4, 4.64 ERA) on the mound Saturday, facing off against the Marlins' Max Meyer (7-0, 2.75 ERA).
