Central Texas High School Baseball Teams Eliminate from UIL Semifinals
In a disappointing turn of events for Central Texas baseball, only Lake Travis remains in contention for a state title after both Dripping Springs and Rouse were eliminated from the UIL playoffs. Their elimination occurred during the decisive Game 3 of their respective best-of-three semifinal series on Saturday.
In a tightly contested match, Dripping Springs fell to Houston Memorial with a score of 2-1. The game ended dramatically as Isaac Richardson hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, leading the Mustangs to the Class 6A Division II state championship. The Tigers managed to score first when Sam Branyon singled and stole home in the opening inning. However, Houston Memorial equalized in the second inning after Ethan Baylis doubled and scored on a wild pitch. Dripping Springs’ pitcher Nixon Badilla delivered a strong performance, completing the game with five strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Rouse faced a similar fate against Montgomery Lake Creek, losing 2-1. The Lions clinched their victory with a two-run sixth inning, thanks to an RBI double from Peyton Trummell and a run-scoring single by Aiden Rossano. Rouse’s Liam Mongold had given the Raiders an early lead by hitting a home run in the second inning. The Raiders’ pitching featured Jack Doss, who threw for 5 ⅔ innings, supported by 1 ⅓ scoreless relief innings from Colby Driskell.
As the UIL playoffs progress, Lake Travis now stands as the sole representative of Central Texas vying for the championship title.
