Charges Dropped Against Jonathan Cooper's Girlfriend, Lawyer Responds

Recently, Broncos linebacker Jonathan Cooper found himself in the spotlight following an arrest that also involved his girlfriend. The district attorney's office has now decided to drop the criminal mischief charge against her, as reported by Mike Klis of 9News.com.

Ronald Gainor, the attorney representing Cooper's girlfriend, expressed relief over the ruling. "She should never have been charged in the first place and the decision today by the district attorney's office confirms that," Gainor stated. "This decision really goes a long way in vindicating her and we're very happy with the court's decision today."

In stark contrast, Cooper's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, voiced strong discontent with the situation. “White woman admits she was the aggressor," Steinberg noted, adding that she acknowledged grabbing the phone from Cooper’s hand and damaging it by throwing it against the wall. He emphasized that the police seemingly did not believe her allegations against Cooper, stating, “Charges dismissed against white woman. Prosecution against Black man continues. Justice in America."

Despite the dismissal of charges against his girlfriend, Cooper still faces several serious allegations stemming from the June 4 incident, including second-degree assault and harassment. The linebacker, who was drafted in the seventh round in 2021 and has been a starter for three consecutive seasons, was excused from the team's mandatory minicamp and may face paid leave when training camp commences.
