Charles Barkley Challenges ESPN to Let Him Go After Controversial Cardi B Remark

Charles Barkley, who has captivated audiences on “Inside the NBA” for nearly three decades, recently stirred up controversy with comments about Cardi B during her halftime show at Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals, held on June 8 at Madison Square Garden. The former NBA superstar's remark quickly became a hot topic, leading him to further elaborate on the situation during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” two days later.

In a bold statement, the 63-year-old Barkley expressed, “I’m hoping they fire me.” He indicated that with six or seven years remaining on his contract, he has little chance of completing it. “I would love for them to fire me and have to pay me for the next six or seven years,” he added, jokingly discussing strategies with his agent to prompt such an outcome.

Barkley dismissed concerns over his remarks, asserting that there’s “zero” chance he will see out his contract. His response to critics of his Cardi B joke was equally defiant: “C’mon, man, people can’t take a joke. They can kiss my [expletive].” He continued, emphasizing that not everyone will appreciate him and those who lack a sense of humor should not take offense.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing NBA Finals, the New York Knicks lead the series 3-1 and are coming off an incredible comeback victory, where they erased a 29-point deficit in Game 4, marking the biggest comeback in Finals history. The San Antonio Spurs find themselves facing a critical Game 5, needing a victory to avoid elimination and keep their championship hopes alive.
