Christy Hoffman to Join UC Hall of Fame as a Soccer Legend

Cincinnati Bearcats women's soccer standout Christy Hoffman has been selected for induction into the prestigious James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame, as confirmed by the athletics department on June 17. The induction ceremony is scheduled for October 23, coinciding with the Bearcats' 2026 Hall of Fame class, just before the Homecoming football game against Texas Tech on October 24 at Nippert Stadium.

Hoffman, who played as a goalkeeper for the Bearcats from 1997 to 2001, is widely regarded as one of the finest players in the program's history. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in leading the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including the historic Sweet Sixteen in 2001. She also helped secure the 2001 Conference USA Regular Season Championship and contributed to two Conference USA Tournament titles in 1997 and 2001.

Her impressive records in UC's archives speak for themselves; Hoffman holds the single-season marks for goals-against average (0.58), victories (20), and shutouts (14) from her remarkable 2001 season. She remains the all-time leader in career shutouts (32.5) and goalkeeper wins (59). Additionally, she ranks among the top ten in several other categories, including saves and games played.

In 2001, Hoffman was honored as the Conference USA Defender of the Year and earned a place on the First Team All-Conference. Her accolades include Second Team (2000) and Third Team (1997) All-Conference selections, as well as recognition on the Conference USA All-Tournament Team during the 1997 title run, where she was named the Most Valuable Goalkeeper. An outstanding freshman, she received an Honorable Mention as a Soccer Buzz Freshman All-American and garnered multiple regional awards.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Hoffman excelled academically, earning the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and recognition as a CoSIDA Academic All-American. Her daughter, Braelyn Even, currently plays for the Bearcats' women's soccer team, continuing the family's legacy.

More information about the Hall of Fame's upcoming 50th anniversary class will be released soon, with notable figures like legendary men's basketball coach Bob Huggins already announced.
