Cincinnati Bearcats Baseball Welcomes Three Key Players Back for 2027 Season

Just days after their NCAA Starkville Regional exit, the Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team is making headlines with the return of three pivotal players for the upcoming 2027 season. The Bearcats, who recently finished a strong season with 38 wins—just shy of the school record—are looking to build on their back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.

On June 4, sophomores Quinton Coats and Derrick Pitts, along with freshman Enzo Infelise, announced their decisions to return. Head coach Jordan Bischel expressed optimism about retaining more players after the season's conclusion. "We want what's best for those guys," Bischel stated on June 1. "Hopefully, they think that's Cincinnati. I don't think dollar signs are going to change that for them."

Coats, who made a significant impact as a sophomore, was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy. He ended his season with an impressive .339 batting average, along with 28 home runs and 79 RBIs, shattering the previous school record for home runs. Pitts also had a standout year, improving his performance to hit .329 with six homers and 42 RBIs in 58 games, while showcasing his highlight-reel defensive skills.

Infelise, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, emerged as a key player for the Bearcats, leading the team in hitting with a .374 average, 10 home runs, and 48 RBIs. His exceptional fielding skills positioned him as a strong candidate for the starting catcher role next season.

Looking ahead, more announcements from other Bearcats players are anticipated, as two key prospects, including Buster Posey Award semifinalist Jack Natili, prepare for the upcoming MLB Draft. The first round is set for July 11, with further rounds taking place on July 12-13.
